Subtitle generation

Generate subtitles from movie audio on your PC

If a movie has no usable subtitle track, SubPlayer can transcribe the audio locally and prepare subtitles for translation.

Local step: audio extraction and speech-to-text run on the computer. The movie and audio are not uploaded for transcription.

Workflow

  1. Open the movie.
  2. SubPlayer extracts audio locally.
  3. The speech model converts dialogue to timed text.
  4. If another language is selected, the subtitle text is sent for cloud translation.

Hardware and time

Processing time depends on movie length, CPU, compatible NVIDIA GPU, audio quality and the selected quality mode. SubPlayer does not publish a universal speed promise.

Limitations

Overlapping speakers, music, noise, unusual names and quiet dialogue can reduce quality. Generated subtitles are an aid for watching, not a certified transcript.

The trial's AI subtitles need your own Gemini API key. Paid plans include cloud translation.
